A Sample Document from our VO Business Model: The VO Business Model document "Is This You" is presented here in good faith on a confidential basis as an indicator of the quality and style of the documentation you will receive from licensing the TLL VO Business Model: Start ... Introducing the Virtual Organisation: Is this you? VO Vision: * Your VO Vision here A Virtual Organisation: A Virtual Organisation is a group of distributed individuals, organisations or communities with a common interest, collaborating in their mutual best interests as a single, effective organisation.
VO members are typically already successful, competent people or organisations working in a related market. VO members perform their own work in their own right for their own customers and also leverage their own operations and resources by working collaboratively to provide their products and services through their VO. By participating in the VO, members enjoy the best of both worlds: the freedom to pursue their best interests through their own business and through their VO. The VO dimension allows VO members to provide their goods and services through opportunities that are generated by their trusted VO member colleagues as well as involving their fellow VO members in opportunities that they generate for the VO.
The combination of the VO approach and an equitable business model can harness, leverage and reward the ability of a VO to deliver products and services that are genuinely valued by the VO customers, the VO members and the VO owners.
In addition to delivering excellent results to its customers in the marketplace, the VO provides rewarding professional and lifestyle outcomes to its Members with services that include:Promoting the VO and its active Members in its 'Line of Business' marketplace; Promotional leverage by including the VO Logo in their own business card and stationery;Pricing leverage for various external services such as insurance and healthcare cover; Earning financial rewards for performing various roles in generating, performing and delivering VO Projects;Accessing business opportunities and proven documented business practices, legal agreements and professional methodologies;Billing, Accounts Receivable and disbursement services provided by the VO Administration system;Using proven Marketing and Quality Assurance practices for delivering successful projects;Participating in email discussions and physical meetings with other VO Members. The VO funds its activities with retentions from revenues earned from projects performed for the VO customers. Dependent upon their level of participation in the VO Model, Members can earn revenue by performing a mix of the various VO roles: Sales and marketing to generate VO projects;Performing work in VO projects;Quality assurance for VO project; The VO can be structured as a limited liability company with Shareholders and a Board of Directors that fulfils the governance role as well as the necessary legal and fiduciary requirements. All members of the VO are contractors, and there is an opportunity for effective Members that consistently contribute to the business to become VO Shareholders. Critical Success Factors for the VO: A common interest and target marketplace; VO structures, processes and practices that allow the VO to collaborate and work effectively; Web enabled Information Systems; Competent, trusted, results oriented members that operate with integrity and professionalism; An appropriate mix of marketing, selling and technical skills within the VO membership; Delighted customers making positive referrals about the VO.
The VO's Target Market: The VO's target market is typically determined by the common interest and focus of the VO members' products and services. With the understanding that VO members typically retain ownership of their personal accounts when they bring an opportunity into the VO, all VO members are encouraged to find opportunities for themselves and their VO colleagues from any appropriate source. The VO Gets work from: Existing VO customers; VO Members naturally developing work opportunities for the VO as they operate in their own marketplaces; Positive Testimonials and Word-of-Mouth Referrals from delighted VO and VO Member customers; Positive responses to VO advertising and the VO Web Site. The VO Group Culture: The cultural profile of a VO is typically strongly constructive. The dominant norms reinforce self-actualisation, achievement, humanistic / encouragement, and to a lesser extent, affiliative behavioural styles. The passive defensive styles are all very low so there is little emphasis on the approval, conventional, dependent, or behavioural styles. In essence, the VO utilises its Members' skills inventory in a project framework to deliver accountable and mutually satisfying results to its customers. This works in the marketplace because: The VO has the skill sets to do the whole project; The VO Members are competent and effective professionals who act with integrity; Its customers perceive the VO as a professional and substantial operation; The VO prices are competitive for the Customers and deliver fair returns to participating VO Members; The day-to-day VO management, administration and operational practices are equitable and effective.
In addition to 'doing their own thing' participating VO Members utilise the VO as a support structure and resource pool to compliment their own personal activities. All VO Members are free to obtain, perform and invoice their own work in their own right as 'Personal Work.' However, individual VO Members do not actively compete against the VO for work and are encouraged to channel appropriate work opportunities through the VO. In practice, this means that if the VO's name, reputation or resources, including any other VO Member(s), contribute to a VO member obtaining or performing new work for a customer, then the project and all of the VO members working in that project are managed as a VO project. Consequently, when a VO member introduces any other VO member(s) to perform work for one of their personal customers, that project is managed as a VO project rather than personal work. Joining a VO: A VO membership application is sponsored by an existing member, subject to two successful reference checks of their good character and professional competence, and then approval by an independent VO Director. Qualified professionals initially join as an Associate with the right to do work in VO projects, attend meetings and, when they have a VO business card, have their professional details listed on the customer facing section of the VO Website.
With the support of their VO Sponsor, a VO Associate who successfully introduces a work opportunity to the VO becomes a Member with the right to enjoy the VO fees associated with performing additional VO roles.Working as a VO: Is This You? The VO approach is not for everyone.
One of the major challenges of working as a member of a VO is in achieving an effective balance between the necessary but potentially conflicting forces that characterise a VO style of organisation. These are: Maintaining the independence and autonomy of your own business while being available to participate in the VO business model; Collaborating and cooperating with your VO colleagues to generate and perform VO work.People and organisations that can resolve these potentially opposing forces find the VO model an excellent way to work. Those who can't, find it unsatisfactory. Rather than being a substitute for inadequacy, the VO business model enhances competence. Effective members use the VO as a means to extend their own creativity over and above their own capability. When this VO business model is utilised effectively, a VO Member has the opportunity to transcend the restrictions of both the traditional form of organisation, and those of the independent operation. The result can be The Best of Both Worlds!
